Don't call me late for dinner! - April 20, 2005

Yep,! I'm late again. It's already Wednesday for cryin' out loud.... well Wazzzup? I got some guitar cuts back from Orville Ivy. He's such a great player. Check out his gig at Collette's here on Commercial street on the 20th of May. He'll be joined by Mark Weisgram. I went to High School with these guys and they were incredible players back then... and like fine wine they only get better with age. It should be a great show.
Tomorrow the wife and I head to Silverton to see Country Joe MacDonald. I think he's solo but it would be great if he had the band with him. The band at this time is apparently the Fish minus Barry Melton.
Tonight I go over to the studio and Fuzzy and I will go over the cuts Orville gave us on "Givin' 'Em Hell!". we already had great cuts with sax on them from Patrick Lamb. It should be cool to see how we can weave them together. There is a new gig added to the calendar. I'll be at the Dragonfly Coffee Co. on 17th Street here in Salem Town on Friday, May 6th from 8 to 10. If you can't make it all the way over to Pacific City to the Riverhouse on the 30th of April come check me out at the Dragonfly.
Plant you now and dig you later!

Long strange weekend! - April 12, 2005

Well... here I am late getting my weekly entry in. Big surprise huh? This weekend Michele and I went to Seattle to see an old band-mate of mine Kelly Curtis. We used to be in a band called the Mojos here in Salem. It was sure good to see him and his lovely wife Jenny. Kelly always has a way of cracking me up. It was a long trip though, as we did it in one day. So... not much got done this weekend because we were so wore out from the freeway ... and almost being killed on it a couple of times! Makes one want to stay home in what Ray Davies calls your "Shangri-la".
Anywho... This week for those faithful few who visit the website often enough, you may recall that I was introducing you to the singer/songwriters who will grace our stage here at the "Rockin-ass Lounge" on the 25th of June for our "By The Light Of The Tiki-Torch Circle" songwriters in the round. Last week I gave you the link to San Francisco's own Courtney C.Patty's site WWW.CourtneyCPatty.com. This week please check out WWW.TravisPinn.com. Travis is out of Battleground Washington. He's a young Native American Singer/Songwriter with a great stage presence. Very relaxed and interactive with the audience.
This week we got three fiddle tracks done on the new album. Phil McCoy came over to Fuzzy's studio and we got a cut for "Fish In A Fryin' Pan" which is dedicated with love to my beautiful wife Michele and a set of twin violin tracks for a Tex-Mex tune called "Hot Tamale" and a very nice track for what I believe is the final version of "Broken Pride".
Going to see Country Joe MacDonald at Macs Place in Silverton on the 21st of April. looking forward to that. Haven't seen him in years. Check out his web site at WWW.CountryJoe.com.
Until next time Muchacho's!

Sunday Night Message! - April 3, 2005

Well... Time marches on. Went to the studio on Wednesday and Fuzzy and I roughly mixed down two songs. "Gun-Shy" and "Don't Say Goodye (Say See Ya Later)". Got a call from my friend Phil McCoy... he's ready to lay down fiddle tracks this Wednesday.
Friday night Michele and I went to Portland to a club called Poor Richards and watched Courtney C. Patty and a friend of hers named Jennifer Yax perform. It was a great night. Courtney was excellent... as usual. Please check her out at her website WWW.Courtneycpatty.com. I talked to Jim Bull the "Musical Director" there and it looks like there will be a Sig gig there... possibly in June. June 25th is also the date of the first "By the light of the Tiki Torch Circle" songwriters in the round at our home. Hopefully this will be an annual event... we'll see how it goes. Keep watching the news/journal for more details. We'll be having some great talent here and I want to introduce you to all of them via their sites.
Anyway... Plant you now and dig you later!

End of Spring Break - March 27, 2005

Well... It's 10:00 Sunday night... the end of spring break. I got on the trail of some local gigs. Michele and I went out with the promo stuff ... so hopefully I'll be able to see some of you at some new spots soon.
the new album makes progress. I got off a good cut on the slide for a solo on a song called "Fish In A Fryin' Pan" and added a little glockenspiel on "Everybody Wants To Drive My Car". We're waiting on a guitar cut for a song called "Givin' 'Em Hell" by local guitar great Orville Ivy. The last four cuts are back-up vocals. Local band Blind Driver is working up the back-ups for two cuts and I still have to find the right folks for the last two. Then the mix-down.
Thanks to everyone who signed the guestbook. If you're out there and you haven't signed in... please do. I read every one and I'm trying to answer them all. It means a lot to me. If you've never heard me before and you have any comments please feel free. I'd love to hear from you. Well... time to look at the inside of my eyelids... until next week my friends.

First mass mailing - March 19, 2005

Okay... I finally got my e-mail list done and got my first e-mail out to the masses. If you're one of those I contacted and you want off the list let me know... I don't like going to parties where I'm not invited! Also.. if I sent it to your work and you have another e-mail let me know and I'll change it.

Well... I'll give you an album report. I finally settled on a title. It will be "Tangled In My Roots". I have a great picture in mind using a sculpture by Tom Rudd. By the way you might want to check out their (Tom and Margo's) website at WWW.mcruddart.com there you will see some incredible artwork by this husband/wife from Pennsylvania. Anyway... the sculpture for the cover is this black boat that the smokestack is a stump and the wake coming off the boat is the roots of the tree.
I only have 5 cuts left to record. two are back-up vocals by three members of "Blind Driver" from Salem. Two others are back-up vocals and I'm hoping to enlist the services of Little Sue and Lynn Conover from Portland... but I have as yet not gotten in contact. The other cut is guitar by Orville Ivy of Salem. I got some fantastic Sax cuts by Patrick Lamb of Portland. You really should check out his website at WWW.Patricklamb.com... no kidding people these are a#1 cuts and I was so lucky to get him on the album.

Speaking of lucky... I recently talked to Drummer fantastico Lou Chavez who said he'd do some gigs with me so.... gotta get out and on the booking trail. Anyway... I guess that's long winded enough for today!
Hoping the world gets more peaceful....

Welcome to the new improved site! - February 18, 2005

Hey babies!
Welcome to my new improved website. I'll get to communicate more freely with you now. Just a little run down of where it's at within this particular point in time.
This past summer I went out to the Mary Hill Winery in Goldendale Washington and was one of eight winners in their songwriters contest. This year I've entered the Kerrville New Folk competition, Sisters Folk Festival Songwriters competition and the Woody Guthrie Folk Festival Songwriters contest. I will also be getting some local gigs soon... I'm sure the Riverhouse in Pacific City will be on the agenda.
Last but not least I've been working at Don "Fuzzy" Purcel's studio here in Salem (the town of the vaguely familiar). We are just about to the mix-down point! I'm finishing up twelve new tunes for a new album which I have not chosen a title for. Stay tuned babies... I'll throw a few choices out and I invite you to write back and let me know what you think! Hope you enjoy the new WWW.Sigpaulson.com!!!
